Elisabetta Punta

Elisabetta Punta received the Degree (Laurea) in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. (Dottorato di Ricerca) in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Genoa, Italy, respectively in 1993 and in 1998. She is a Researcher of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) at the Institute CNR-IEIIT since 2013 (Researcher at CNR-ISSIA 2005-13, Research Fellow at CNR-ISSIA 2003-05). From 1994 to 2003 she was Research Fellow at DIST - University of Genoa. In 1998 and 2000 she was at the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department of Tulane University, New Orleans, LA (Research Traineeships for Graduated of the University of Genoa and NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship for Scientists).

She directed research projects: Robotics (Unige, 2000), Robotic Manipulators (CNR, 2001), Sliding Mode Control for Systems with Delay (Unige, 2000), Modelling and Simulation of Complex Systems (PRAI-FESR project 18, 2005-07), Higher Order Sliding Mode (CNR Short Term Mobility Program, CNR-University of Tel-Aviv, 2010), Sliding Mode State Observation (Bilateral Italy-Mexico CNR-UNAM, 2009-11), Sliding Mode Fault Diagnosis and Monitoring (Bilateral Italy-Mexico CNR-UNAM, 2013-15). She participated in research projects: Biped Robots (PFR, 1993-94), Freeway Traffic Control (PFT, 1995-97), Underwater Manipulators (EU MAST, Amadeus 1 and 2, 1994-99), Modelling, Simulation and Control of Complex Plants (Ansaldo Energia, 2003); Numerical Simulation (PRAI-FESR 2005-07), Control and Monitoring of Thermoelectric Power Plants (MUR-FAR, 2005-10).

Dr. Punta is Senior Member IEEE. She serves as Member of the Conference Editorial Board (CEB) of the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) since 2007. She is a Member of the International Program Committee of the IEEE International Workshop on Variable Structure Systems (VSS, biennial, since 2006). She serves as Subject Editor for “International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing” since 2012 and Associate Editor for “IMA Journal of Mathematical Control and Information” since 2012. She is a Member of SIDRA (Italian Society of the Professors and Researchers in Automatic Control) and has several International, European, National research collaborations.

She taught courses of Automatic Control and she was co-advisor of various theses (University of Genoa, Milan Polytechnic, University of Trieste). She gave seminars in Industries and at foreign Universities. She was an Expert Evaluator of projects under the programme Marie Curie FP7-PEOPLE-2012-IEF-IIF-IOF and FP7-PEOPLE-2013-IEF-IIF-IOF, Mathematics and Engineering (MATENG) panels, Research Executive Agency (REA), European Commission.

She is author of more than 80 works published in international journals, books, and proceedings of international conferences. Her research interests include: Variable Structure Systems, Sliding Mode Control Theory, Higher Order Sliding Mode Control, Sliding Mode Observers, Nonlinear Control, Nonlinear Observers, Mechanical Systems, Time Delay Systems, Thermoelectric Power Plants with Combined Gas-Steam Cycle, Energy Production Systems, Telecommunication Systems, Control and Optimization Methods for Freeways, and Complex Systems.
